Healthy Gamers? New Study Says Yes!

Do you think that all gamers have bad habits? Think again. A fresh study shows some surprising facts about people who love video games.

The Computers in Human Behavior journal recently shared a study that looked at gamers. They wanted to see if gamers always had unhealthy habits because they play a lot. Joana Cardoso, who studied at the University of Maia, was curious about this. She loved games as a kid and wanted to know more.

They checked 270 people in Portugal who played video games for at least 7 hours a week. The study looked at their health, what they eat, how much they move, how they sleep, and more.

What did they find? Most of these gamers were pretty active. They did things like sports, gym workouts, and even martial arts. This means not all gamers just sit all day. Also, they ate better snacks and didn't always drink energy drinks while playing.

Only a very small group, about 1.28%, seemed to have a gaming problem. This means most gamers can play a lot without it being bad for them. Joana Cardoso and her friend, Catarina Matias, told PsyPost that many gamers live a healthy life.

But, there was one thing. Even if gamers didn't play for too long, many didn't sleep very well. A big reason might be because a lot of them drank coffee. More than half of them drank coffee, and some had up to four cups a day.

So, what's the big message? Gaming is fun, and it can be okay for most people. But like everything, it's good to have balance. Play your favorite games, but also move, eat well, and get good sleep.
